Thursday 4th July – Windsurf **** River Orwell at Levington – sunny
and warm.
Foil – 19.24 knot max , 17.61 knot ave, 9.78 knot hour, 16.05 knot mile,
44.68 km., 15.66 knot alpha.
Starboard Freeride 150 and a Evolution Freeride foil with a Tushingham
Storm 5.2.
A cracking forecast of wall to wall sunshine with a westerly wind around 20
knots so I headed over to Levington Marina, arriving at 8.45 to make the
most of high water which was just past 11 with Robert arriving a little
later! I quickly set up my foil board, sail choice was harder as the wind
was probably WNW a fraction off but there was white water out in the middle
of the river I I took a chance with 5.2 which proved right when the big
gusts came through! I was on the water at 9.30 and was up and flying
straight away, spending a good part of the session doing short runs across
the river I front of the marina doing over 50 gybes, managing to stay dry
for the whole session despite it being pretty bumpy down the middle! I was
joined on the water by Robert on 5.3 and was shaving fun I front of the
marina but he headed I much earlier than me as he was off to Alton to
continue his winging! The wind went a little patchy and I was tempted to
came in and swop to 6.5 but stuck with the smaller sail, in fact I managed
a few long runs down to Felixstowe docks as a huge container ship docking
on the last berth! It was nice down this part of the river as it was much
flatter than near the marina. The wind eased again so I slowly headed back
only flying once more as I beat back! I was just changing my shoes I our
van when Mag arrived, she did the usual bus to the out skirts of Levington
and walk 2.50 miles to the marina. I then showered and we enjoyed lunch in
the van before I packed up and we headed for home, nice session I the
sunshine, tomorrow is looking wet again but Saturday is looking promising
for another Levington foil! Then before sorting out my pics Mag and I
walked around the corner to vote and the the polling station a church was
full of wild flowers, it looked lovely!
